McCOOK, Nebraska - Beer enthusiasts in McCook have a new destination to satisfy their taste buds with the opening of "The Yard," a self-serve taproom owned by Tyler Loop. Loop's innovative approach is evident as customers become their own bartenders while enjoying a variety of locally brewed beers and specialty drinks.
The main attraction of The Yard is its North Wall, boasting 16 self-serve taps equipped with touch screens for easy selection. Alongside the locally brewed beer on offer, patrons can indulge in hard seltzers including an Arnold Palmer flavor, popular specialty drinks, and non-alcoholic options such as Cold Brew Nitro Coffee and Root Beer. To add a personalized touch, there is also a dispenser providing liquors for patrons to create their own cocktails. With options for a half shot, a full shot, or a double, customers can experiment with various mixes, garnishes, and recipes.
Loop explains that the concept of The Tap was always in his mind when he acquired the space to expand his brewery. Wanting to avoid the complexities of a traditional building a traditional bar, Loop discovered the self-serve option through research and decided to implement it at The Yard. Loop shared “Our staff is called the beer wall ambassador and our bartenders are our customers.”
"The Yard" name holds a dual meaning for Loop, signifying both a backyard atmosphere and a connection to the Loop brand company and the nearby railroad tracks. While food is not currently served at The Yard, Loop recommends visitors try The Loop, his restaurant, for a dining experience. Additionally, he plans to introduce a pizza trailer that will park outside The Yard when it's not traveling to fairs and festivals.
Beyond beverages, visitors to The Yard can enjoy music, play cornhole and darts, and soon take advantage of the golf simulator currently in development. Loop also has plans for live entertainment, with bookings already secured, including an upcoming performance by No Strings Attached on March 2, 2024. The versatile space can also be rented out for private parties or meetings.
Loop's commitment to quality extends beyond The Yard, as he takes pride in the craft beers they produce. Popular brews include Red Willow Irish Red, Lucky Sasquash Scotch Ale, Viking Blond, Looper Lager Big Red Husker Ale. These craft beers are now available state-wide, with deliveries made to Kearney and the Omaha area a couple of times each month. Additionally, Loop has collaborated with a distributor to sell their products in central Nebraska.
Innovative thinking is not confined to the tap room for Loop, as he has embraced new advertising methods. With the guidance of his 16-year-old daughter, he has ventured into creating TikTok videos to engage with a broader audience and showcase The Yard's unique offerings.
With its self-serve concept, locally brewed beverages, and a host of entertainment options, The Yard promises to be a go-to spot for beer lovers and socializing enthusiasts alike in McCook.
