McCOOK Neb. -  As the holiday season approaches, McCook, Nebraska is bustling with festive cheer and an array of exciting events for everyone to enjoy. The McCook Chamber of Commerce along with local businesses and individuals bring a ‘Winter Wonderland’ to the area.  From captivating performances to joyful parades and charming markets, here are the must-attend activities happening this weekend:


1. "The Nutcracker" at the Fox Theater:

For all dance enthusiasts and fans of Tchaikovsky's beloved ballet, For Dancers Only Performing Arts Academy will be enchanting audiences with their rendition of "The Nutcracker." Join them at the historic Fox Theater on Friday, December 1st, and Saturday, December 2nd, at 7 p.m. for a magical evening of dance and music. Christine Janton is the owner/ director of ‘For Dancers Only’, she says that this is the 5th year they will perform the Nutcracker. They have been rehearsing for over two months. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for children.  “I could not put this on without the help of my two daughters, Jessica Janton and Roxanne O’Reilly. I would also like to acknowledge the parent volunteers who help as well. The students look forward to performing this every year,” said Janton. The students range in age from 4 to 19 years old. 


2. Santa's Arrival and Live Entertainment:

Santa Claus himself will make a grand entrance on Saturday, December 2nd, flying into the McCook Airport at 12:30 p.m. After his arrival, he will make his way to the Keystone at 3 p.m., where children can meet him and share their Christmas wishes. Additionally, from 3-6 p.m., Norris Park will come alive with live entertainment, featuring talented performers, free refreshments, crafts for kids, and delightful carriage rides.


3. High Plains Radio's Light Parade:

Immerse yourself in the dazzling spectacle of the High Plains Radio's Light Parade, starting at 6 p.m. This enchanting procession will illuminate the streets of McCook with vibrant lights, creative floats, and holiday-themed displays. Don't miss the chance to witness this captivating event with family and friends. Bryan Loker, regional vice president of High Plains Radio shared that they have been putting on the Light Parade for 15 years. 


4. Annual Holiday Barn Show at Common Scents:

Discover unique gifts and delightful treasures at the Holiday Barn Show hosted by Common Scents. On both Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Sunday, from 1-4 p.m., visitors can browse through a variety of vendors offering an assortment of handcrafted items. Enjoy delectable food from Sehnerts and The Scratch Food Truck, indulge in a DIY Container Bar experience and capture precious memories with Holiday Minis from Amberette Photography.


5. Christmas Concert with McCook Community Chorus and Oberlin Area Concert Band:

Conclude the weekend on a harmonious note by attending the Christmas Concert featuring the McCook Community Chorus and the Oberlin Area Concert Band. Embrace the spirit of the season as these talented musicians come together to create a symphony of yuletide melodies. Freewill donation at the McCook High School auditorium.
